Domestic Adoption Process

All adoptions start with a Home Study. But once completed, the process differs depending on whether or not you pursue a Domestic adoption or International adoption.

Home Study
A home study is a document that describes your family, lifestyle, finances and more. Once approved, you can proceed to the steps in a domestic or international adoption.

To get started on a home study, schedule a pre-home study interview to meet informally with a staff member to discuss specific adoption needs and to obtain additional information regarding the adoption process. This interview enables prospective adoptive parents to begin their relationship with the agency which will provide service and support throughout the entire process. Also necessary is a training requirement of an Infant CPR and First Aid class in order to have a completed home study.

Your Personal Profile

Your personal profile is used merely as an introductory tool. Our counselors will discuss your profile in much greater detail with the birth mothers in person. Have fun with your profile and speak from the heart.

Put together a photo album/profile with a one-page letter for the birth parents. This enables them to get a sense of who you are. Tell about your home life, hobbies, vacations, interests careers, marriage, relatives, etc. Include lot's of different photos, including some with children and pets, if any. Avoid using last names or information that would identify your job, business, church or town. Also avoid any identifying names or numbers on your house, car or clothing in your photos. Explain what each picture is about and who is in the photo. This will help us share your life with the birth parents.
